When I first got my NAFLD diagnosis, I felt lucky that my husband had jumped on the sourdough starter trend the year before. We had a small, dormant starter tucked away in the back of our fridge — and thanks to TikTok, I had already been inspired to revive it and start baking again.
By the time I got the news about my liver, I was already working on perfecting my own sourdough loaves. As it turns out, sourdough is actually great for gut health — and if you’ve ever tried finding a store-bought bread without unhealthy oils and additives, you know how challenging it can be.
Instead of writing out the full recipe here, I’m linking to my personal favorite recipe below. It uses only clean, safe ingredients that are great for people managing NAFLD. I highly recommend giving it a try!
For a little extra flavor, I tweak the salt measurements:
👉 10g of Borsari (salt with herbs)
👉 3g of regular salt
It gives my loaves an amazing boost of flavor without adding anything my body doesn’t need. 🥖✨
